WIP Wednesday

I’ve actually got something to show you today. I’ve started my biggest project ever, I think. A blanket that I’m knitting as a gift for an upcoming wedding (top secret :-)).

It’s knitted in squares, and in the last three days I’ve managed to knit 3. That was with not much time for knitting, so I actually think that I’ll be able to finish it by the end of August. I’m actually going to be making it bigger than the pattern calls for, but I haven’t quite decided on the finished size, I think I’ll just keep going with the squares until I run out of yarn. It’s quite handy each square uses up one 50g ball of yarn.

So, without further ado, here are the squares I’ve knitted so far.

And here’s the square I’m currently working on.

FO Collection

I wanted to show you a collection of FO’s that I finished  over the last 3 years. The first lot is a set of a blanket, bonnet and booties. I’ve not blogged about these separately yet, but will do so over the next few weeks. This set was made for a friend from school who wanted to give it to a friend of hers. She picked the colours as she didn’t know whether it would be a boy or girl, as a matter of fact I’m still not sure :-). I do really like the colour combo and I think it can work for either boy or girl.

The second set was made for a good friends baby boy, who is actually not a baby anymore, he turns 2 in September. It’s a cardigan, trousers, hat, socks and booties. I’ve blogged about some of these before, but can’t remember exactly when. I made them over two years ago. I remember using up some of the yarn in my stash, hence the different colours, but I do really like them.

And the last set is a jumpsuit and booties that I made for an ex-colleague. She was giving this to a friend. I made the same jumpsuit for Luke, and really liked the pattern.

FO: Pretty, Pretty Pinkness

I’ve been meaning to post about this gorgeous little number since I finished it, but I wanted to make sure that the mother-t0-be I made it for received it first. She received it yesterday and really loves it. And I have to say, I really did to. I loved knitting it, as instead of garter or stockinette stitch the skirt has a sort of lacy pattern.

The pattern, as always, is a DROPS pattern. And although the pattern called for sleeves, I decided to leave them out and add a picot border instead. Then it can be work with something underneath or without, perfect for Summer or Winter. It’s made from DROPS Safran, which is 100% Egyptian cotton and a real joy to knit with.

The pattern also calls for two crochet flowers, but I decided to go with three to give it that extra little something.

I loved knitting this, at first I was a little worried about the skirt because it’s knitted in the round on circular needles with 196 stitches, which seem like a lot. But then as soon as I was knitting it was actually really easy and quick, I guess because it was in the round so it was just continuous.

The lacy effect of the skirt just looks lovely I think, and it’s so easy to knit. I was also quite pleased to be knitting with such a bright, girly colour, as I feel like I normally stick to quite boyish or unisex colours. The added peach picot borders to give a little bit of a contrast.

I’m excited to see the soon to be born little girl in this dress, as I’m sure she’ll look absolutely adorable!

I’ve also just added this on Etsy, should anyone want to order one.

FO: Aviatrix

Here’s another Aviatrix for charity that I knitted back in December 2011. This is the newborn size.

I still love this pattern, really do. It’s a really well written pattern that gives loads of different options for sizes and different yarn thickness. Absolutely great.

FO: Simple Jumper

I’ve been going through my photo folders and have found this jumper that I made for Luke back in 2010. I love the DROPS Fabel I used, it’s worked out really well I think. The jumper was a hit, and I have a picture from back then with Luke in it, and he’s tiny.

The pattern is really, really easy to knit and I loved making it. The pictures aren’t of the greatest quality, as we didn’t yet have our Canon EOS back when I was taking them. We only got it when Luke was already a month old as we wanted to make sure we could take amazing pictures.

I wish I’d made this a little bit bigger because Luke was only able to wear it a couple of times. I’m thinking about making another one later this year for the winter, but we’ll see if I get around to it.

And finally here’s the money shot:

FO: Stripey Vest

Posted in Baby, Knitting with tags , , , , , , , on June 15, 2012 by annatestadoro

My friend that I knitted some items for late last year, she was selling them for charity, ordered a vest and socks. I know I showed you the vest in a WIP Wednesday post, I actually managed to finish it last week and posted it on Tuesday.

I absolutely love the yarn. It’s DROPS Baby Alpaca Silk, which is half mulberry silk and half alpaca,  it’s the most gorgeously soft yarn that I’ve ever knit with and it makes the garment incredibly soft.

This is the first DROPS pattern that I didn’t completely love. The body of the vest itself was easy enough, it was knitted in one on circular needles on the round. But then I had to add a rib to the front, the back, the two armholes and at the top for the buttons. I just found it a little bit time consuming picking up the stitches.

Nonetheless, I do love the end result, I think it’s another really smart vest for a little boy and I’m sure it’ll look good on the little boy receiving it as a gift from my friend.

FO: Fingerless Mittens

Posted in Knitting with tags , , on June 14, 2012 by annatestadoro

These fingerless mittens were put on order from a good friend of mine. They’ve been in my  queue for the last two weeks and I’m glad to have finished them, I popped them in the post today.

I know I’m predictable, but it is indeed another DROPS pattern. Just an easy garter stitch rectangle that gets stitched together with a hole for the thumb and then an added crochet border on both sides.

The pattern called for DROPS Alpaca and DROPS Glitter, which adds a lovely chic detail.

FO: Birthday Cardigan for Tom

Here’s a cardigan I knitted for Luke’s good friend Tom for his first birthday back in April. It’s one of the new patterns from DROPS and I really loved knitting it up.

It did take a little longer than I wanted it to as the pattern called for moss stitch on the entire jacket. But even though it did actually take a little longer I love the end result.  The moss stitch looks really good and gives the cardigan a nice character.

And Luke also seems to approve. He was too keen to be involved in the photo shoot when I was taking the pictures.

The added pockets can’t really be used as pockets, but they just add that little bit extra and make the cardigan look a little bit like a grandfather cardigan.

I originally wanted to pick a brighter colour, but then decided on this lovely denim blue. And I managed to find the nice blue buttons in my stash. All in all I’m really happy with the end result and my best friend Kerstin and handsome Tom are too.

FO: Summery Girly Cardigan

Posted in Baby, Knitting with tags , , , , , , on June 10, 2012 by annatestadoro

This cardigan is fast becoming a firm favourite, I’ve had quite a few orders for it, you can read about it here and here. But this is the first one I’ve knitted with cotton yarn, DROPS Safran to be precise.

I really do love this pattern, it’s so easy to knit as it’s garter stitch all the way with 14 stitches of moss stitch on each side for the front bands. I do always seem to forget the button holes and again when I was knitting this. So I just had to go back a few lines and then knit it up again with the button holes included this time.

And the buttons are curtesy of Textilegarden. I love them and I’ve just ordered a whole new lot, you’ll see them tomorrow in my seven little moments post.

And of course you can see that I added a nice crochet border, with a lovely contrasting deep red/purple. I’m going to call it plum?

So, we’ll see if and when I get another order for this same cardigan.
