FO: Stripey Vest

Posted in Baby, Knitting with tags , , , , , , , on June 15, 2012 by annatestadoro

My friend that I knitted some items for late last year, she was selling them for charity, ordered a vest and socks. I know I showed you the vest in a WIP Wednesday post, I actually managed to finish it last week and posted it on Tuesday.

I absolutely love the yarn. It’s DROPS Baby Alpaca Silk, which is half mulberry silk and half alpaca,  it’s the most gorgeously soft yarn that I’ve ever knit with and it makes the garment incredibly soft.

This is the first DROPS pattern that I didn’t completely love. The body of the vest itself was easy enough, it was knitted in one on circular needles on the round. But then I had to add a rib to the front, the back, the two armholes and at the top for the buttons. I just found it a little bit time consuming picking up the stitches.

Nonetheless, I do love the end result, I think it’s another really smart vest for a little boy and I’m sure it’ll look good on the little boy receiving it as a gift from my friend.

FO: Another Birthday Vest

Back in March I finished another Birthday vest for one of Luke’s friends, Myron. You’ve seen pictures on here of the two together. Sorry it’s taken me until now to add it on here. But without further ado here we go.

I used the same pattern as the one I made for Luke last year.  It’s really easy to knit and I love the cables.

The back is knitted in garter stitch, and I always find that it looks like the wrong side, but when a little munchkin is wearing it, it’s fine.

I had some nice red buttons in my stash, they finish off the entire vest nicely I think.

FO: Boyish Cardigan

This is a cardigan I made earlier in the year, started in late February and finished in early March. It was for a little boy who used to come to our toddler group (Tots & Toast) with his mum. As always it’s a Garnstudio pattern. I absolutely loved knitting it. It’s all knitted in one piece, apart from the front bands, but the rest, including the sleeves are all knitted in one. It’s great, as it means less sewing at the end.

My friend saw a similar cardigan I knitted for a friend before and asked me to use similar colours…I think they work really well.

I used Drops Safran, which is cotton yarn and I made it a little bit bigger so my friend son could wear it during this coming Summer.

FO: Charity Socks

Here’s a pair of newborn to 3 months socks that I knitted for charity while we were in Australia in November. They were knitted for a friend in Belfast who was organising a market to raise money for a little girl with cystic fibrosis.

I used some blue yarn that I had leftover in my stash and just my pattern to finish these.

They look tiny and that’s because they were actually tiny. I’m not sure whether they were actually sold, but I do hope that they found a good home. Here just a quick look at the little label I made for them.

FO: Christmas Socks

Just a very quick post tonight, I want to get to knitting the strawberry hat! Here’s a pair of socks I knitted for my nephew for Christmas:

They’re just the standard socks I knit, not much else to say really.

WIP Wednesday

I’m working on an order a good friend of mine placed a couple of weeks ago. And I’m using the yarn that I showed you on Sunday. Get ready for it, it’s a strawberry hat :-).

What do you think so far? I’m loving the colours!

FO: Grandpa Waistcoat (on Luke)

I was able to finish the the little grandpa waistcoat for Luke yesterday and did a little photoshoot with him today. But before I give you the pictures of my gorgeous little man in his new waistcoat, here are some details about the project and some initial pictures without him in it.

I showed you the start of what I was knitting last WIP Wednesday and here is now the finished piece. It’s another DROPS pattern, one of their new ones for 2012.  It was a real joy to knit, apart from me forgetting the button holes at one point and having to undo a fair chunk of what I’d knitted. Also, I miscounted the stitches I needed for the two front pieces and the back piece, so, there are two additional stitches on the left front piece. But, to be honest, it’s not really noticeable at all.

The pockets are knitted later, where slits are left when knitting up, and aren’t really proper pockets. It’s not like Luke is really going to be using the pockets :-). I did decide to knit a size up, so instead of knitting the 12-18 months size I went with the 2 year size. And you know what, I actually think it works really well. This will be part of Luke’s outfit for his birthday party, and I’ve bought a little shirt as well…he’ll look even more adorable then he does anyway!

And now, the results of mine and Luke’s photo shoot this morning.

FO: Woollen Trousers

Here’s another finished piece that I made about a year and a half ago. I can’t even remember exactly I got the pattern, but I think it might have been out of my Debbie Bliss book.

What I do remember is that I was able to use a lot of my leftover Drops Karisma yarn, and I was lucky to have enough blue yarn left to make these trousers, and a cardigan, which I thought I’d blogged about before, but I can’t seem to find it.

As far as I can remember it was a really nice and easy knit and they were knit up relatively quickly.

And here’s a picture with the cardigan. This ensemble was knit for a friend who had a baby last year in September, but their little munchkin was too big to fit into it unfortunately. Or rather, but the time it got cold enough to wear it, he was arleady too big.

Birthday Vest for my Nephew

Posted in Knitting with tags , , , on September 18, 2011 by annatestadoro

For my nephew’s first birthday on 25th August I managed to whip up a quick, and dare I say very nice little vest. It’s another great design from the guy’s at Garnstudio (I know I keep on harking on about how great they are, but they truly are!). And the patterns are always so easy and such a pleasure to knit.

I like how the double moss stitch at the top makes the entire vest a little more exciting than if it was just stockinette stitch. And I’m quite pleased with the colour, as it can be teamed with either a white top underneath, making it tres chic, and any other colour really.

Picking up the stitches for the arms was a little bit tricky, as I had to make sure there were a certain number of them. However, it does give the vest a very nice finish.

The entire vest was knitted in the round and for the first time rather than grabbing my double pointed needles I used a size 40 circular needle. It initially felt uncomfortable knitting with the needle, but I quickly got used to it, and I’m sure I’ll be using them again soon. I’m planning on making the same vest for my little man, but in a nice green (I think that’s my favourite colour for him, as I seem to always pick it for any new project for him).

I found some nice buttons in my stash and was able to finish off the vest with those. If you’re interested in the details, they’re over on Ravelry.

Tom’s Cardigan

Posted in Knitting with tags , , , on September 16, 2011 by annatestadoro

Quite a while ago, I think it must have been around January this year, I made a few items for my best friend. She was also expecting a baby. In the meantime, he arrived on Easter Monday and has been growing so quickly. Little Tom is gorgeous (you’ll see a picture in a minute :-)), I’m sure you agree. And I’ve been lucky to see my best friend and her little man on a couple of occasions. Firstly, when we went up to Edinburgh to visit them in mid-July, and upon meeting Luke and Tom got on like a house on fire:

And the second time when I went over to Germany for my best friends wedding and the two boys had an entire week that they were able to spend together.

However, I’m here to talk about one of the items I made for Tom, which was this little cardigan.

I know it was a pattern from the guys at Garnstudio, but for the life of me I can’t remember which one it was. All I remember is that I wanted to use up some of my Drops Paris cotton yarn and I looked for patterns that I could use the yarn with, and there you go. What I do remember is that it was a really nice and easy knit. It’s all knitted in one and the sleeves are added in so that you continue knitting it in one piece, which is a really nifty thing, as it means less sewing at the end.

I think the colours worked out very well, at the time I was knitting it, my friend wasn’t 100% sure whether she was having a boy or girl, so I picked the colours as I think they can work for both quite well.

I was lucky also to have some really nice mother of pearl buttons left in my stash, which finish off the cardigan quite nicely.

And doesn’t little Tom look gorgeously cute in it?
