FO: Simple Jumper

Posted in Baby, Knitting with tags , , , , on June 17, 2012 by annatestadoro

I’ve been going through my photo folders and have found this jumper that I made for Luke back in 2010. I love the DROPS Fabel I used, it’s worked out really well I think. The jumper was a hit, and I have a picture from back then with Luke in it, and he’s tiny.

The pattern is really, really easy to knit and I loved making it. The pictures aren’t of the greatest quality, as we didn’t yet have our Canon EOS back when I was taking them. We only got it when Luke was already a month old as we wanted to make sure we could take amazing pictures.

I wish I’d made this a little bit bigger because Luke was only able to wear it a couple of times. I’m thinking about making another one later this year for the winter, but we’ll see if I get around to it.

And finally here’s the money shot:

FO: Stripey Vest

My friend that I knitted some items for late last year, she was selling them for charity, ordered a vest and socks. I know I showed you the vest in a WIP Wednesday post, I actually managed to finish it last week and posted it on Tuesday.

I absolutely love the yarn. It’s DROPS Baby Alpaca Silk, which is half mulberry silk and half alpaca,  it’s the most gorgeously soft yarn that I’ve ever knit with and it makes the garment incredibly soft.

This is the first DROPS pattern that I didn’t completely love. The body of the vest itself was easy enough, it was knitted in one on circular needles on the round. But then I had to add a rib to the front, the back, the two armholes and at the top for the buttons. I just found it a little bit time consuming picking up the stitches.

Nonetheless, I do love the end result, I think it’s another really smart vest for a little boy and I’m sure it’ll look good on the little boy receiving it as a gift from my friend.

FO: Another Birthday Vest

Back in March I finished another Birthday vest for one of Luke’s friends, Myron. You’ve seen pictures on here of the two together. Sorry it’s taken me until now to add it on here. But without further ado here we go.

I used the same pattern as the one I made for Luke last year.  It’s really easy to knit and I love the cables.

The back is knitted in garter stitch, and I always find that it looks like the wrong side, but when a little munchkin is wearing it, it’s fine.

I had some nice red buttons in my stash, they finish off the entire vest nicely I think.

FO: Boyish Cardigan

This is a cardigan I made earlier in the year, started in late February and finished in early March. It was for a little boy who used to come to our toddler group (Tots & Toast) with his mum. As always it’s a Garnstudio pattern. I absolutely loved knitting it. It’s all knitted in one piece, apart from the front bands, but the rest, including the sleeves are all knitted in one. It’s great, as it means less sewing at the end.

My friend saw a similar cardigan I knitted for a friend before and asked me to use similar colours…I think they work really well.

I used Drops Safran, which is cotton yarn and I made it a little bit bigger so my friend son could wear it during this coming Summer.

FO: Grandpa Waistcoat (on Luke)

I was able to finish the the little grandpa waistcoat for Luke yesterday and did a little photoshoot with him today. But before I give you the pictures of my gorgeous little man in his new waistcoat, here are some details about the project and some initial pictures without him in it.

I showed you the start of what I was knitting last WIP Wednesday and here is now the finished piece. It’s another DROPS pattern, one of their new ones for 2012.  It was a real joy to knit, apart from me forgetting the button holes at one point and having to undo a fair chunk of what I’d knitted. Also, I miscounted the stitches I needed for the two front pieces and the back piece, so, there are two additional stitches on the left front piece. But, to be honest, it’s not really noticeable at all.

The pockets are knitted later, where slits are left when knitting up, and aren’t really proper pockets. It’s not like Luke is really going to be using the pockets :-). I did decide to knit a size up, so instead of knitting the 12-18 months size I went with the 2 year size. And you know what, I actually think it works really well. This will be part of Luke’s outfit for his birthday party, and I’ve bought a little shirt as well…he’ll look even more adorable then he does anyway!

And now, the results of mine and Luke’s photo shoot this morning.

Baby Hoodie/Coat – Blogtoberfest: Day Eighteen

Posted in Baby, Knitting with tags , , , , on October 18, 2011 by annatestadoro

As I knew I would be travelling today, I scheduled this post. This is the first time I have ever sccheduled a post, I might add. I made this coat/hoodie (an exact copy of the one Luke has) for an old colleague and friend of mine. She had a little girl recently and loved the coat on Luke and asked me to knit one for her little girl.

It’s a Debbie Bliss pattern, see Ravelry, and it’s a real joy to knit. Very straightforward, and straight pieces for that matter. I went with Debbie Bliss yarn as well and it feels very soft and luxurious.

I decided to go for red buttons to give the little coat that extra ‘ce ne se qua’.

I like how the hood falls, and I think it works very well when it’s being worn (wait for it, I promise there’s a baby pictured with it on in this post!)

The sleeves work well because the cuffs are turned up, which means that this will definitely fit for a while. In fact, Luke still wears his and he first started wearing it when he was around 3 or 4 months old.

I promised, didn’t I! Here’s a picture of little Sophia wearing it, isn’t she just adorable?

FO: Hoodie – Blogtoberfest: Day Eleven

I’ve managed to finish the hoodie I was knitting for myself. I started it back in May and took a bit of a break with it during the Summer. Mainly because the yarn I was using, Drops Eskimo, is really warm and thick and it just didn’t feel right to be knitting with it in weather that was in the twenties. The pattern is a Garnstudio pattern that I had found when I was waiting for my little man to arrive in February.

It’s a really easy to follow pattern that is knitted on circular needles up until it’s split for the arms and the front band. Knitting with Drops Eskimo is quite nice as it’s quite a thick yarn and it practically flies off the needles (when I decided to finally focus on it).

When I started knitting it I decided to go for a large size as I think it’s quite nice to be comfortable in this kind of sweater. I was a little bit worried about the sleeves being too short when I was knitting them (even though I knitted a large), but they turned out to be just the right length.

My best friend was still here on Monday so we did a photoshoot of me wearing the hoodie, so prepare yourselves. Doesn’t it look good? I do think the hood looks a little bit like a pixie or gnome, maybe I should block it after all?
