Chic Blue Dress

Posted in Knitting with tags , , on January 17, 2011 by annatestadoro

This dark blue dress, made from cotton is from a pattern from the folks over at Garnstudio. It was one I worked on just before the summer last year and wore a couple of times during the summer. It was a great, easy knit, which might be down to the fact that the pattern calls for Drops Paris, which is a nice thick cotton yarn.

I did make the mistake of knotting together the different balls of yarn, which meant that when it came to finishing it there were a few bits that just didn’t look as nicely as I wanted it to.

I have to admit that I normally love knitting stockinette stitch, but I did get a little bit tired of it towards the end, so I was really looking forward to the moss stitch.

I also think it looks quite nice at the bottom, as it starts off the dress very nicely. I do think the colour works really well, especially as it can be teamed with a nice white blouse/shirt or a nice white top. There are so many different options!

And the crochet border finishes off the dress quite nicely I think. I’m looking forward to wearing this again this coming Spring/Summer, once I’m not pregnant any more and have lost some of the extra weight :-).

A Gorgeous Dress for a Gorgeous Girl

Posted in Sewing with tags , , , on January 6, 2011 by annatestadoro

This dress was made ages ago, probably still last year when we were still living at our old house, for a friend who was sending it to her friend in Argentina. I had made a dress for her friends little girl before, but found out that it got lost when it was stolen from their house, which I thought was a real shame. So, I was only happy to oblige to make another one.

I used a pattern from a German version of Burda, which is a magazine that I’ve been ‘reading’, or rather using since I was probably around 14 and I started my first major sewing project, a ballgown. It’s one of the best magazines out there as it gives you numerous patterns within one issue, so rather than having to pay a fortune for a single pattern you get 15-20 per issue.

I loved this pattern, it was incredibly easy to make and turned out really well I think and the fabric looks really girly. I like the little bow at the bottom, it gives the dress that little bit of extra flair.

Additionally, the colour of the neckline works really well with the fabric and gives the dress a certain je ne se qua!

Cherries

I know it’s been far too long since I last posted, and I’m ashamed that it has taken this long. It’s not because I haven’t been knitting, sewing or making anything, far from it. I’ve been very busy with all kinds of things. Cardigans, for myself, for babies; dresses, for myself, for my niece; socks, hats, you name it. But don’t you think that the fact that I have been making so many things should be even more reason for me to add them here? Well, some of the items I took pictures off have been lost, we were burgled three times at our last house (we have since moved) but this meant that all the pictures I had saved onto our computer, were lost. Nonetheless, there have been some new finished objects since which I will start adding here.

Let me start firstly with a little dress I made for my gorgeous niece Clara, who by the way will have a little sister or brother within the next month.

The pattern is one of the Burda baby range and it was really easy to finish. I made some slight adjustments to it while I was working on it, but I think it worked out really well. I think the fabric really suits the pattern and I actually like the fact that it’s girly, but not too much!

Little Clara was here with her parents in late June and we wanted to put her in the dress, but it was just slightly too cold to do so. It’ll be much better for her to wear it at home in Spain, where it’s much warmer at this time of year.

I didn’t use any interfacing in the little collar, even though it called for it. I don’t think it’s really necessary in a baby/toddler dress. After all it’s going to be much nicer on their little necks if it doesn’t have any interfacing, but maybe that’s just me?

Little Red Dress

I just finished knitting a dress for my niece Clara. It’s from a pattern over at Garnstudio. It was really nice and easy to knit. It’s meant to be knitted with Merino wool, but I decided to use a nice red cotton, as little Clara apparently always gets really hot in wool. Maybe this will be better for her.

I like the fact that it was so easy to knit and even the borders were really easy. I’ve not crochet in a while, so had to look up some of the terms up, but managed to do it. Also, this is the first time that I’ve knitted in moss stitch, which has worked out really well. I really like the fact that I’m trying new things, now I just have to try out knitting cables.

I found it a little hard to photograph as the colour didn’t come out very well, but I think putting it on a yellow background seems to have worked.

The cotton was really nice to knit, it also meant that I my fingers wouldn’t get too hot whilst knitting.

Summer’s Coming, Here’s a Dress

Posted in Sewing with tags , , , , on March 29, 2009 by annatestadoro

I really like the pattern for this little baby dress. It’s from a German Burda Magazine from October 2005.  I think it looks particularly cute with the little red bow.

The colour combination works well I think, especially as summer is on its way. I used some very leightweight cotton, and a piece of satin ribbon for the bow.

The dress is for a friend of mine who’s going to be giving it to one of her friends. I hope everyone likes it!

I chose some see through buttons as that keeps it nice and simple.
